Asylum seekers from Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia

05/03/2010 // Norwegian authorities introduces 48 hour-processing time on applications for asylum for citizens of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia

The purpose of the introduction of 48 hour-processing time is to prevent a large number of unfounded asylum applications from these countries. Several European countries have experienced a considerable increase in applications for asylum from citizens of these counties after the visa free travel was introduced on December 19th, 2009.

The 48 hour-processing time proved very effective when a similar situation with asylum applications occurred after visa free travel for citizens of Bulgaria and Romania was introduced. This procedure is used when it is obviously believed that the application for asylum is unfounded.
